Metagram was engaged to design a coffee bar located in an understated alley style entrance on the Theatre Lane side of the landmark Pedder Building in Central, Hong Kong.

 

Metagram took an innovative approach to the design, positioning a monolithic grey granite counter in the center of the space, actively addressing views through both entrances. Service staff would be directly visible from the street ensuring an always-dynamic outlook.

 

Above the central bar, in a recess within a black expanded steel mesh ceiling, Metagram commissioned a 'chocolate bar' style resin light box with a 5 meter yellow brass linear pendant hanging from its gaps.

Toward the back of the coffee bar a boldly cantilevered granite benchtop provides communal seating for customers after a quick respite and bite. Surrounding the bar and seating millwork finished in beautiful Italian Ebony Macassar veneer emphasizing the vertical height of the narrow space.
